Hello,
On July 14, 2018 around 1:00PM, SysAdmins noticed authentication and acm.cs.uic.edu became inaccessible. From initial investigation, the HVAC system was suffering an unexpected water shutoff. The main AC unit in the server room is not functioning, allowing temperatures to rise in excess of 116°F.
SysAdmins have contacted the appropriate parties to help resolve this issue. We expect this issue to be resolved by Monday, July 16, 2018. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Due to high temperatures, ACM/LUG services will be running in limited capacity. The majority of servers will be powered down for the weekend to mitigate any catastrophic hardware failures.
Currently affected services:
- All services hosted on acm.cs.uic.edu.
- Including, but not limited to the following:
- Email Services
- Hosting Services
- Secure Shell
- GitLab
- IRC
- Mailing Lists
- Including, but not limited to the following:
- Monitor Wall
- ACMAPP Kubernetes Cluster
- Cuda machine
- Test Servers
- Non-critical subdomain machines
If you have any questions, please let an ACM/LUG SysAdmin know by emailing sig-sysadmin [at] acm.cs.uic.edu or by messaging the #sig-sysadmin channel on Slack.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
Chase Lee
ACM/LUG Systems Administrator 2016-2018
